MSc Speech and Language Therapy

With hands-on experience from the start, our MSc Speech and Language Therapy course will train you to combine current theory and practice to assess, diagnose and support people with speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders.

100% of our leavers are in work and/or study 15 months after the end of their course (Higher Education Statistics Agency Graduate Outcomes, 2021).


MSc Language Sciences

If you are interested by the science of language and are pursuing a different career to speech and language therapist, find out more about our MSc Language Sciences course. This course covers core areas of language sciences, neuroscience, language development and multilingualism.

Your future career

The MSc Speech and Language Therapy course allows you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and work as a speech and language therapist after graduating.

We work closely with local speech and language therapy services to provide you with clinical placements that give a breadth of experience. This range of experience, in combination with one-to-one input from our team of practising speech and language therapists, is there to help you decide which area of speech and language therapy you wish to pursue when qualified.  

You can go on to work as a speech and language therapist in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, the community, schools, colleges or the prison service. 

Alternatively, you may decide to combine clinical practice and research with further postgraduate study.  

Speech and language therapy is an extremely rewarding career and, whatever path you choose, you will work closely with your patients, their families and carers. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team which may include physiotherapists, doctors, nurses or teachers.

Fees, funding and scholarships

A variety of funding support is available to our master’s students.

UK/EU students can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. You may also be eligible for other grants and bursaries.

Both UK/EU and international students can apply for scholarships, which are awarded based on previous academic achievement.

Postgraduate fees and funding

Support payment

The government provides an annual £5,000 support payment for speech and language therapy students.

All students on our MSc Speech and Language Therapy course are eligible, and you won’t have to pay back the support payment after graduation.

How you'll study

You’ll be taught via lectures, seminars, workshops, one-to-one sessions, clinic observations, and clinical placements.

In stimulating class sessions you'll discuss theory, analyse data, and generate hypotheses and ideas.
