Our clinics

The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences is home to two NHS-partnered clinics as well as an independent autism centre.

Our public-facing clinics not only enrich our School’s teaching and research but help provide invaluable support and treatment to the local community.

The Speech and Language Therapy Clinic is a free, independent clinic that runs during the academic year. It is open to adult and paediatric patients with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties.

Client feedback for the Speech and Language Therapy Clinic

“I brought a little girl to you who didn’t speak. 13 months later, she is able to interact and communicate her needs and desires. Please know that the work you do is life-changing.â€

The Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Unit assesses and treats seven to 17 year olds for anxiety and depressive disorders. It also researches the development, maintenance and treatment of these disorders.

Centre for Autism

The Centre for Autism is a regional hub for research and training in autism. Research at the Centre uses a range of techniques to examine core features of autism and to support the development of clinical interventions.

Our research centres

Our research centres have an international reputation for research in areas including child development and psychopathology, neuroscience, and clinical training.

Our School plays a leading role in the interdisciplinary Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM). CeLM brings together linguists, psychologists, neuroscientists, and educationalists across the University.

Its mission is to investigate language, literacy, and multilingualism across the lifespan, and to engage with practitioners and the general public in the co-creation and dissemination of research.

Researchers at the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN) use multi-modal imaging and high-level computational modelling to improve our understanding of human cognition.

Equipped with modern neuroimaging facilities, we are helping develop new ways of dealing with global challenges such as autism, obesity and cognitive decline.

We are proud to work alongside researchers across the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø as part of the Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health (IFNH).

As part of the IFNH, our School is exploring how diet affects cognition and mental health across the life span, as well as how we can influence behaviour to encourage people to eat healthier.

Clinical training

Students within the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences benefit from studying within an active clinical environment. Research from our clinics and centres ensures that students are informed of the latest theories and practice in clinical psychology.

Psychology and speech and language therapy students also have the option to carry out placements in our clinics and gain hands-on experience.

"I benefited – and still benefit – from being able to work with and learn from a large, diverse group of service users and within a team alongside other high-intensity therapists, clinical psychologists and other psychological wellbeing practitioners (PWPs)."
