Mediation

The University recognises how working relationships between staff affect staff wellbeing and performance. In the main, staff should be able to resolve any disputes informally through dialogue and communication with their managers and their colleagues.

A workplace mediation scheme can help to resolve workplace disputes informally and at the appropriate level, without resorting to potentially distressing and time-consuming formal process. The University Grievance Procedure encourages staff to resolve disputes informally before resorting to formal procedures.

Mediation is designed to be a positive process, as it focuses on the future, rather than trying to apportion blame for the past. The mediation process is voluntary and confidential on all sides and the following information provides a summary of the process of mediation and how it can be applied at the University.
