Areas of interest

My broad research area is about improving the safety and quality of healthcare, specifically medication use and safety. Central to my work is the application of Human Factors and Ergonomics principles and methods to understand complex health problems, and design solutions for optimal health/performance and wellbeing of people and organisations. The areas of health where I have recently conducted research in include, antimicrobial stewardship (how we can reduce resistance through a range of interventions in community pharmacy, undergraduate education, prescriber education), medication management in dementia (in-depth exploration of how people perceive, manage medication in the home), use of high-risk medications in hospitals. I use a range of qualitative and quantitative methods in my research; I am particularly interested in giving people their voice when exploring topics/areas close to them and do so by finding different ways to engage people including visual methods.
