Our teaching methods

You will learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, practical classes and workshops, and carry out an interdisciplinary research project with supervision from a researcher in the Department.

Our interactive approach helps you develop into an independent learner.

You'll work with academics across our Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, and Mathematical, Physical and Computation Sciences schools.

Lectures

We always provide our lecture material online (as podcasts, screencasts or videos) to support our lectures. We also complement this with additional support material including online quizzes and discussion boards.

Practicals

Practical sessions put the theory learned from your course into practice and give you the practical skills required to be competitive in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industries. Practical sessions can take place in labs or in our clinical skills suite.

Workshops

Workshops allow you to work through topics covered in lectures with your peers. The academic is on hand throughout for one-to-one and group discussions to aid you through the task. Worked examples are explained at the end to conclude the session.

Our research

Our degree courses are invigorated by the research interests and expertise of our academics. We offer a lively programme of both pure and applied research in a diverse range of topics, including:
