Seed Archive

The herbarium has a wide collection of seeds for reference purposes.

Those of historical interest include part of Sir Edward Salisbury FRS, seed collection. He was Director of Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in the middle of the 20th Century. Seeds collected by John Percival along with some artefacts of historical interest are housed here.

Other holdings include reference collections from the British Flora. Examples of excess seed from our Index Seminum are also kept as reference material which can help in identification of unknown material. These include seeds from the UK as well as many other countries, mostly from known, wild, origin. Our seed collection is also used in teaching activities.

If you wish to consult our reference seed collection please contact the Deputy Curator.
