Areas of interest
Particular interests include using technology effectively in and out of the classroom, supporting students with language needs related to their specific discipline, vocabulary development and fostering learner autonomy. I was previously a member of the assessment team and retain an interest in effective assessment of English for Academic Purposes.
Research projects
Active Projects:
- Comparing the impact of interactive independent study materials using the Xerte platform with text-based materials.
- Creating teaching materials to support the effective and appropriate use of AI tools for Academic English language development.
- Developing new AEP provision for PhD students in the School of Biological sciences as they engage with an initial literature review task and for chemistry students transferring from the NUIST-ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Academy.
Background
I have been teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) since 2013 and joined the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø on a permanent basis in January 2015. I mainly work across the Pre-sessional English and Academic English programmes, coordinating courses, creating materials and delivering sessions in order to support international students in developing their academic language and communication skills. I also deliver sessions for the Short Courses team.
