Background
Having started in the construction industry as an unskilled labourer in 1972, Will Hughes progressed through college and university to follow an academic vocation. His doctorate is on Organizational Analysis of Building Projects, and he has researched and written extensively on the control and management of building contracts, management of design, professional issues, analysis of organizational structure and the analysis of procurement systems. His focus is on the commercial processes of structuring, negotiating, recording and enforcing business deals in construction. For 25 years he was Editor of the academic journal, Construction Management and Economics. He was Head of the School of Construction Management and Engineering at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø 2005-2010 and, subsequently, programme manager for the MSc Construction Management. Having retired from the University, he now spends his time with national and international standards in construction procurement and cataloguing global research in construction management for the Association of Researchers in Construction Management.
