Background

Dr Omid Shariati is a Lecturer in Sustainable Technologies at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, UK, and formerly served as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at Islamic Azad University (IAU), Birjand, Iran. He holds a PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and brings over 19 years of academic, research, and leadership experience.

He has held two prestigious fellowships at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø: an Innovate UK-funded Research Fellowship, followed by a two-year EPSRC-funded Senior Research Fellowship. His research centred on advanced AI models for power networks, contributing to transport decarbonisation and net-zero goals in collaboration with prominent UK institutions (e.g. the University of Nottingham and Newcastle University) and industrial partners (e.g. National Grid and Shell plc).

At IAU, Dr Shariati served as Vice-Chancellor of Research, leading initiatives in curriculum development, industrial collaborations, and international engagement, significantly enhancing research and academic programmes. His expertise spans smart grid technologies, renewable resource development, power system security and dynamics, and the application of AI in energy systems.

With around 30 publications in high-impact journals and conferences, Dr Shariati is globally recognised for his contributions to modern power and energy systems. His work bridges academia and industry, driving innovations towards sustainable and zero-emission energy systems.
