Your life in the School

Immerse yourself in your own studio space on our London Road campus, complete with advanced digital technologies.

As an architecture student at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø you will have access to a broad range of digital media and traditional hands-on workshops  that reflect real ways of working within the industry.

Your learning experience

Our curriculum is designed to nurture your creative ambitions to help you develop a varied and innovative portfolio.

Field trips

There are opportunities to visit construction sites and architect practices. We also offer optional field trips, guided by academic staff, to view architectural structures across a range of scales, and to experience architecture from varied cultures and eras.

Group projects

These activities provide insight into professional architectural environments and allow you to collaborate with your peers on innovative and exciting design projects.

Studio work

Utilise your personal studio space to work on projects, and develop your creative ideas.

Lectures

Lectures provide insight into key concepts and theories that inform studio work. We regularly welcome renowned architects and specialists as guest lecturers.

Our facilities at London Road

The heart of the School of Architecture is located in a redesigned and refitted character building, re-purposing an old library.

We foster a culture of drawing, making and the theories behind these. In addition to learning tools and techniques used in architectural practice and research – including the latest digital design and visualisation technology – we offer workshops and activities in a range of areas.

Dedicated studio space

Daily access to your own creative workspace within the School allows you to work uninterrupted on your projects throughout your course.

Tools and workshops

Our students have priority access to a modelmaking workshop and dedicated technical support.

We offer workshops and activities in areas such as drawing and mapping in the field, model and architectural photography, casting in concrete and plaster, 3D printing, vacuum forming, laser cutting and digital cutting of thin materials.

Work experience

Develop your design expertise as you work on real projects with established local, national and international architects.

Past graduates have secured placements at practices like ACG, Broadway Malyan, Fletcher Priest, Grimshaw and Metaphor.

Career and application support is available to secure summer internships and work experience.

RIBA mentoring scheme

You will have the opportunity to participate in RIBA Future Architects student mentoring scheme and benefit from personal guidance from an architect mentor.

As a mentee you will:

  • be introduced to life in practice and gain practical advice on working as an architect
  • have the opportunity to reflect on your goals and direction; develop key skills and access one-to-one support
  • gain advice and guidance on future employment and after successful completion of the scheme, receive a reference for CV inclusion.
It was really handy that ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø had the contacts to help us get summer jobs. During my time in practice I was able to expand on the skills I'd gained from my studies and apply them in my final year.
