Anastasios Asimakopoulos

dr ruth dowsett portrait
  • Director of Pre-sessional English Programme (Summer)
  • Lecturer of English for Academic Purposes

Areas of interest

I am predominantly interested in genre pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, materials development, and corpus-based/corpus-driven approaches to teaching and learning. I am also interested in corpus-assisted critical discourse analysis (CDA), and more specifically the representation of LGBT+ identities in media discourse, as well as the effectiveness of association measures in collocational research.

Background

I joined the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø in 2023 as Director for the Pre-sessional English Programme (Summer) and Lecturer of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Prior to this, I worked at the University of Sheffield, where I taught on pre-sessional and in-sessional EAP courses and acted as Assistant Director of Studies for the six-week pre-sessional course. I was also a member of the Technology-Enhanced Learning team for several years and developed an eight-week online corpus linguistics course for EAP teachers. In addition, I have recently worked as mentor on the MOOC ‘Corpus Linguistics: Method, Analysis, Interpretation’, offered by Lancaster University, and as mentor on the ‘Mentoring Social Science Researchers in Corpus Methods and Critical Discourse Analysis’ scheme, launched by Dr Luke Collins (Lancaster University) and Dr Kathryn Spicksley (Keele University).
