Background

  • Hong Yang is a Senior Fellow of HEA (SFHEA) and Fellow of the Royal Geography Society (FRGS), and University Teaching Fellow (UTF).
  • Hong has led and been involved in research projects funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Royal Society, Research England, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), European Research Council (ERC) FP6, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Research Council of Norway (RCN), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Chinese Natural Science Foundation (CNSF).
  • In recent years, Hong has become increasingly interested in the complex interplay between air, water, climate change and anthropogenic activities, with the aim of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), utilizing tools like Remote Sensing (RS), Geographical Information System (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as field and laboratory measurements. This has led to fruitful and interdisciplinary collaboration across the world - in the UK, USA, China, Norway, Sweden, Spain, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Saudi Arabia.
  • Hong is in 2022 and (2021, 2022). His work has been featured by BBC South, ITV and other medias.
  • Hong is youth editors for , , , , editors for , , , , , , and guest editors for , and , and Hong is an Outstanding Member of the Youth Editorial Board of in 2021and 2022.
  • Hong has a BSc in Geography from Central China Normal University, a MSc in Physical Geography from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), PGCAP from the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, and a PhD in Environmental Change from University College London (UCL), UK, funded by NERC-DHPA scholarship. Hong joined the department in 2017. Prior to this appointment, he worked in Southampton, UK and Oslo, Norway.
