Areas of interest
My research is mainly focused on Greek cinema and women’s cinema. These areas of study are informed by my interests in wider critical frameworks, such as feminist theory and criticism, world cinemas and small nation cinemas, genre for film and television, gender and politics of representation in film and television, film style and aesthetics, as well as film practices and industries. My work engages with close textual analysis and is situated across film studies and cultural studies.
I am the curator of the international standing conference Contemporary Greek Film Cultures, which takes place every 2-3 years and is organised each time by a different institution around the world (Universities of ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø and Glasgow, London 2013; University of Washington, Seattle 2015; University of Vienna, Vienna 2018; University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki 2020). I sit on the editorial board of Filmicon: Journal of Greek Film Studies.
I have co-edited the book Contemporary Greek Film Cultures: from 1990 to the present (Peter Lang, 2017) and am currently working on a monograph proposal with the working title Greek Cinema of Dejection.
I am a passionate teacher of film and television, and I actively engage in creating productive synergies between research and pedagogy in face-to-face, blended or online learning modes.
