Our courses

We offer two master's course in the Biomedical Sciences division: MSc by Research Biomedicine and MSc Biotechnology.

Courses for 2024/25

MSc by Research Biomedicine

Gain wide-reaching research training in the field of biomedical research.

Combining taught modules and original research, this course gives you the opportunity to learn the key techniques and skills necessary in sectors as varied as food, pharmaceutical, healthcare and biopharmaceutical.

You will learn crucial research techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and cloning.You will also discuss the latest and most important research papers with your peers and academics. 

MSc Biotechnology

Discover how biotechnology can be used to solve real-world health problems.

At the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, we've collaborated with employers in the life sciences sector to develop our MSc Biotechnology course.

Working with case studies from industry, explore the science that underpins future trends in biotechnology, including AI and big data. You will gain professional experience by undertaking a three-month placement with one of our industry partners or gain hands-on experience in laboratory research by carrying out a research project.

Fees, funding and scholarships

A variety of funding support is available to our master’s students.

UK/EU students can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. You may also be eligible for other grants and bursaries.

Both UK/EU and international students can apply for scholarships, which are awarded based on previous academic achievement.

Biomedical scientists are in great demand in today's world. The MSc by Research Biomedicine course is designed to help you achieve a successful career in research. Many students go on to pursue a PhD, while others go straight into work in research labs.

You could engage in biomedical research within:

  • pharmaceutical companies such as GSK, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, Novartis, Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, and Sanofi
  • biotech companies such as Genentech, Amgen, Genzyme, and MedImmune
  • research products and services companies such as GE Healthcare, Lonza, Qiagen, and Invitrogen
  • hospital, university or research institute labs.

How you'll study

Through taught modules and original research, you'll learn the key biomedical science techniques required for work or further study in the field.
