Hone your skills

Develop and refine your skills, exchange experiences with others, and develop as an artist in our transformable studio spaces.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the studios will be the focal point of your activities for the duration of your course, providing you with a space in which to work, create, exhibit and perform.

Three distinct spaces

We have three distinctly different workshop spaces: a fabrication, digital, and audio visual workshop.

Gain access to a wide range of equipment to create and curate your work in fields such as digital photography, film, ceramics, metalwork, printmaking, painting, sculpture, welding and woodwork. Our equipment includes:

  • 3D printing technology
  • green screen technology
  • a dark room for photography
  • sound recording technology
  • digital tools for film and video editing
  • a kiln.

Fabrication workshop

Utilise a variety of tools and machines for 3D work in wood, metal, ceramics, textiles, and glass, as well as for 2D work like screen printing, etching, and letterpress. Our state-of-the-art laser cutters work with CAD to transform drawings into 3D objects, capable of cutting and engraving materials such as paper, card, textiles, wood, and plastic.

Digital workshop

Create in our computer suite, equipped with the latest software for image, video and sound editing and complemented by our dedicated video editing suite and sound recording booth.

Audio visual workshop

Shoot your own videos and photos in our audiovisual (AV) studio, complete with green screen, lighting and camera equipment.
The facilities and studio space available have allowed me to explore a range of different media, such as film, photography and painting. Learning this diverse range of skills has certainly enhanced my own art practice.
Ellie de Wild, BA Art and History of Art

Creative and stimulating

Our studios are creative, lively and stimulating learning environments, shared by students from all our degree courses, encouraging you to exchange thoughts and ideas.

Regular events, screenings, performances and exhibitions take place in our highly active studios. We also organise mixed year-group critiques of exhibitions to encourage a range of views and experience. Experimental project spaces are also available for you to explore.

Flexible and ambitious

Work at your own pace in our flexible studios spaces, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Large, versatile and bright airy spaces, they provide the perfect backdrop for your work whether it's painting, sculpture, digital or performance art.
24-hour access to the art studios has allowed me to really invest in my painting; I can work to timescales that suit me and in an environment that is inspiring and encouraging.
Thomas van Der Meulen, BA Art

You’ll have access to the University Library, our museums and our range of special collections including the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
