ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø tops UK for Agriculture in 2022 QS Subject Rankings

Agriculture at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø has once again been ranked among the global elite, topping UK institutions offering courses in this field in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.
The University moved up one place to be ranked 11th globally and 1st among UK institutions ranked for Agriculture & Forestry, a classification that includes study across a range of areas at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, including agriculture, food science, ecology, and soil sciences.
Professor Simon Mortimer, Head of the School of Agriculture, Policy & Development said:
“We are a global leader in teaching and research into agriculture, and I am pleased that we have again been recognised as Britain’s leading centre in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject. For more than a century, we have been playing a critical role in furthering the understanding and practice of agriculture and farming and will continue to do so in the future.”
Professor Richard Frazier, Head of the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, said:
“Research and teaching about Food Sciences has a critical role for global health. As such, our ranking in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject reflects our status as one of the largest Food and Nutritional Sciences departments in the UK. From advising governments to championing forgotten voices of people from areas of deprivation in food policy making, we are doing something about the significant challenges that we face in the food sector.”
This year, the University has also increased the number of subjects ranked among the world's top 200 higher education institutions to 14. These include highly placed rankings in Earth and Marine Sciences and Environmental Sciences.
ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø is ranked internationally as:
- 11th for Agriculture (1st among UK institutions)
- 30th for Earth and Marine Sciences (8th in UK)
- 61st for Environmental Sciences (9th in UK)
- Top 100 for Archaeology (11th in UK), and Architecture/Built Environment (7th in UK)
- Top 150 for Accounting and Finance, English Language & Literature, Linguistics
- Top 200 for Art & Design, Business & Management Studies, Education, Geography, History, and Psychology
Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, said:
“Our latest position in the QS subject rankings underlines our reputation as a global institution across a wide variety of subjects, and it recognises the excellence and dedication of our staff and students as well as our high-quality research and teaching.
“This year we have grown our number of top 200 ranked subjects and continue to demonstrate our position as sector leaders in subjects including Agriculture, Earth and Marine Sciences and Environmental Sciences.”
The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on measures of academic reputation, the employability of graduates as rated by major employers, and citations for published research.
