Overview

Module aims and purpose

This module provides students with general and specific placement and employability related skills. It aims to develop students' placement awareness, and introductory employment and placement application readiness (CV writing, peer support, application forms, career advice). 

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

1. Show awareness of the range of placement options available to them
2. Understand the key steps involved in securing a placement, including the support available to them
3. Begin to develop their CV writing and other application skills

Module content

Topics will typically include: 

• Placement application journey and RED enrolment 
• Boosting your CV 
• What Placement can I do? 
• Gaining relevant work experience Part 1 
• Gaining relevant work experience Part 2 and advice from placement returners 
• CV workshop in a computer lab 
• Preparing for Placement search and applications, with advice from second year student 

Structure

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching is based around interactive seminar sessions. Students are also encouraged to book a one-to-one meeting with the Placement Co-ordinator. 

Study hours

At least 6 hours of scheduled teaching and learning activities will be delivered in person, with the remaining hours for scheduled and self-scheduled teaching and learning activities delivered either in person or online. You will receive further details about how these hours will be delivered before the start of the module.

Please note the independent study hours above are notional numbers of hours; each student will approach studying in different ways. We would advise you to reflect on your learning and the number of hours you are allocating to these tasks.

Semester 1 The hours in this column may include hours during the Christmas holiday period.
