Introduction to business and professional values. Five Seminar Themes: Values,ÌýEthicsÌýand Business Ethics;ÌýDiversity and Inclusion;ÌýLeadership, Reputation and Corruption;ÌýCorporate Social Responsibility; SustainabilityÌýand ESG.


Aims:

The aim of this module is to develop the students’Ìýunderstanding of core business and professional values and to illustrate the relevance of such value sets to professional practice in the real estate and planning sectors.Ìý

Assessable learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the module, students should be able to:Ìý





  • demonstrate aÌýsystematic understanding of the relevance of business and professional values to professional practice in the real estate and planning sectors;Ìý




  • deal with complex ‘real world’ value issues,Ìýboth systematically and creatively,Ìýand to make sound judgements in the absence of complete data;Ìý

The module takes the format of a series of five seminars covering the following themes:ÌýÌý





  • Values, Ethics and Business Ethics;




  • Diversity and Inclusion;




  • Leadership, Reputation and Corruption;Ìý




  • Corporate Social Responsibility;Ìý




  • Sustainability and ESG.Ìý

The vast majority of issues addressed in this module have global relevance.Ìý

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

The module will be assessed by an individual problem-based practical skills assessment in the form of an online open book exam which takes place in Autumn Term - Week 11.ÌýWordÌýguideÌýlength 2,500 words. All word counts are for guidance only. Unless the specific requirement of an individual assignment states that the word limit is strict, then there is some discretion with the guide length.Ìý

The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

Assessment requirements for a pass:

The pass-mark for this module is 50%.

Reassessment will be by the same method as for the module’s original assessment requirements, subject to variation by the Examination Board where appropriate.
