Summary module description:
This module is an introduction to Organisational Behaviour in the contemporary workplace. It explores the challenges, tensions and issues involved in the relationship between individuals, groups and organisations to better understand behaviour at work and managerial processes
Aims:
The module aims to develop the students’ understanding of the concepts and principles of organisational behaviour Ìýand to evaluate and interpret these within the context in which their organisations operate.
It aims to prepare students to:

- Engage with the complex processes by which individuals can contribute to organisational outcomes
- To account for differences in behaviour, performance and learning based on an understanding of individual difference and an individual's interactions with others and social groups.
- To illustrate and explain different levels of engagement and motivation.
- To assess how effectively an organisation uses its people.

By the end of the module the student will be able:
- Construct critical and academically robust arguments drawing on organisational behaviour theories and research and apply them to the analysis of workplace-related issues.
- Understand the value of diversity and inclusion in organisational performance.
- Create an open, inclusive, agile and adaptable organisational environment.
- Explain the benefits and challenges of cross-functional working and apply this method of working to deliver positive results.
- Apply new ways of working and management theories to improve organisational performance.

Students should additionally be able to:
- Apply a broad range of techniques for managing people and their individual differences.
- Explain the theories and mechanisms for creating employee motivation and engagement whilst recognising individual and cultural differences.
- Explain the benefits and challenges of cross-functional working and team dynamics to deliver positive results.
- Articulate the role of power and politics in organisations and their impact on organizational behaviour and performance.
Outline content:
The module covers the following topics:
- Organisational Culture
- Organisational Structure
- Motivation, Engagement and Commitment
- Working in Teams and Groups including Cross functional working
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The module will be taught using a blended learning approach. This will include directed self-study, workshops, group work, peer support, and other learning activities. During the module, students will follow a guided-learning path that will require them to read materials, access other core and optional learning materials and undertake a range of activities. In addition to the learning path, students will attend workshops. These are facilitated sessions that will help consolidate knowledge, ap ply it the workplace and develop higher order cognitive skills of analysis and evaluation. Students will be expected to relate their learning to their day-to-day work.

One group presentation, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (30% of overall mark)
One 1,500 word individual assignment, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (70% of overall mark).
