Summary module description:

This module is the first in a series of three. The module will support students in the development of the academic skills students need at university level, including a range of skills and techniques in the area of academic writing and reading, referencing as well as develop their competencies as professionals in the areas of time management, stress management and personal presentation.ÌýÌý


Aims:

The module aims to:Ìý




  • Develop students professional competencies in the area of time management, personal presentations and stress managementÌý

  • Develop student’s academic skills to maximise the learning processÌý

By the end of the module, it is expected that programme members may be able to demonstrate their ability in the following areas:Ìý

  • Explain how time is managed using a broad range of techniques and toolsÌýÌý

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Teaching and learning takes place through a blended learning approach. The teaching and learning methods comprise a combination of self-study via a range of online materials on the Canvas learning platform and two workshops led by the module convenor and apprenticeship tutor.Ìý



Materials on Canvas include content on-screen, videos, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, book chapters, practical activities and reflection points.ÌýÌý

One 1,500 word individual assignment, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (70% of overall mark).ÌýÌý



One group presentation, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (30% of overall mark).ÌýÌý

Facilitated learning activities are undertaken during the seminars and workshops, including formative feedback on these activities.ÌýÌý
