Summary module description:

This moduleforms part of thePGDipLeadership(Senior Leader Apprenticeship) programme. Itbuilds on the knowledge covered inFoundations of Leadershipand develops further understanding ofthe knowledge, skills and behaviours required by senior leaders in today’s world, in relation topersonal leadership transformation.





The modulecovers a range oftopicsrelating topersonal leadershiptransformationand isdesigned to meet the learning outcomes of Apprenticeship Standard, specificallyleadingpeople development, coaching, and mentoring arrangements for people within their area ofresponsibility. Inaddition,this module includespromotingan ethical, inclusive, innovative and supportive culture that generates continuous business improvement.


Aims:

The moduleaims to:





  • Develop the capability of individuals to plan, manage and reflect on their personal leadership development







  • Encourage development ofbehaviouralskills in individuals to increase the effectiveness of their leadership




  • Providean understanding of the processes of coaching and mentoring, and the similarities and differences between them




  • Develop thebehaviouralskills to carry outthecoachingprocess




  • Develop the awareness of the ethical and practical issues in relation topersonalleadershipdevelopment and developmentof others

By the end of the module,it is expected that programme membersmaybe able to demonstrate their abilityin the following areas:

• The role of reflection and the reflective leader

• The similarities and differences between coachingandmentoring



• The roles of the coach,coachee, mentor, mentee and line manager

Global context:

The module is taught with reference totheglobalcontextof the learners’organisationsandtheirexperiences.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Teaching and learning takes place through a blended learning approach. The teaching and learning methods comprise a combination of self-study via a range of online materials on the Canvas learning platform, face-to-face workshops with Faculty and a Learning Coach,who supports the cohort throughoutthe module.The learnersfollow aninquiry basedapproach, andeachpersonparticipates in afacilitatedAction Learning set of approxim ately6 -8 learnersin week 6 of themodule.





Materials on Canvas include content on-screen, videos, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, book chapters,practicalactivitiesand reflection points.
