Summary module description:
The ethos of this module is to skill students with the ability to respond to Clients’ briefs through professional role-play. Students will be required to work in teams to deliver a specific work package within a prescribed time. Each student will be required to take the role of a construction professional and will be required to carefully manage that role as part of a project team.
Aims:
This module aims to stimulate students’ intellectual capacities and develop their critical thinking through identifying, evaluating, synthesising and analysing clients’ briefs and propose technical and design solutions as well as financial schemes Ìýmost suitable for legal, environmental and client requirements.
Assessable learning outcomes:
- The ability to identify and evaluate data used in the process of building design.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the sources of design information currently available.
- The ability to propose clear robust design proposals based on interpretation of a design brief.
- The ability to present design proposals in a variety of ways to a variety of recipients.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the roles of design professionals in the construction industry.
- Set the design process within the context of constraints imposed by legal, financial and client requirements.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the design process in the particular with respect to drawing, computing and calculation.
- The ability to respond to challenges arising from teamwork and group dynamics.
Additional outcomes:
- Transferable skills including oral presentations, report submission, problem solving, team working and project administration.
- An underlying theme for each of the above projects is the understanding of the dynamics of teamwork and differences between teams and group interactions.

- Design and functional considerations of building services
- Design of building redevelopment for inclusivity and sustainability

Formative assessment methods:
Penalties for late submission:
The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:
- where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
- where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.

Submission of alternative assignment(s) based on the originally failed project(s). The alternative assignment should be in the form of 3000 words each.Ìý
