Summary module description:

This module is designed to complement students’ experience of teaching and leading learning in school. It provides an opportunity for them to consider in depth an aspect of pedagogy, drawing on research to inform and evaluate their practice. ÌýÌýThose following the Mathematics specialist (SSPIP route) focus upon leading the teaching of mathematics.Ìý


Aims:
To further develop knowledge and skills in a named aspect of teaching and learning.
To develop critical and reflective thinking.
To encourage reflective practice and further study throughout a teaching career.

Assessable learning outcomes:

On successful completion of the module students will:




  • Have developed their knowledge and skills in a particular aspect of teaching and learning

  • Demonstrate critical understanding of a named aspect of pedagogy as it relates to children’s outcomes.

  • Have critically reflected on the current research relating to their chosen focus

  • Become practised in critical and reflective thinkingÌý

  • Be able to analyse what they read, observe and do

  • Have learnt relevant enquiry skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to write in an appropriate academic registerÌý

Outline content:

Students will engage with related literature and consider implications for pedagogy in a reflective manner.ÌýÌý Students will receive input on expectations for masters' level study and appropriate methods of enquiry.Ìý

The global context is an integral part of a school based module, as all school engage with global citizenship as part of the curriculum.

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

A 4,000 word report. ÌýÌýIn the case of the primary Mathematics specialists (SSPIP) route the assignment must examine key themes in leading the teaching and learning of mathematics.Ìý

Formative feedback on an aspect of the written assignment.
Engagement with school-based tasks.

Assessment requirements for a pass:
50% in the report.

(Library printing costs are 5p for B/W page and 15p for colour page)
