Summary module description:
There are two aspects to this module, one the English Language skills taught across two terms for full timers and the other the general study skills support run in the Autumn term for full timers and as a much reduced timetable for part timers. ÌýIt is designed as a non-credit bearing module so that there is no additional formal assessment at the end of each term, but an expectation that students will attend and a record of the module will be placed on student transcripts.
Aims:
The module acts as a forum for all full time students to explore the educational approach and to develop their cultural awareness as well as strengthen their English language and study skills. For part timers it provides the forum to develop their study skills. It also provides a group venue for discussions about the programme in general.

Outline content:
- Introduction to the MA in Education
- Introduction to the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø
- Writing workshop to improve academic writing
- Oral presentation skills
- Introduction to use of the library
- Cultural awareness
- Study skills development
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
This module will be delivered in interactive sessions, which include small group work and lecturing. Some Spring term sessions are designed to be delivered through blended learning. Sessions will require some pre-reading, and students should be prepared to contribute their views and work collaboratively in order to make the sessions interactive.
