Integration and application of core and specialised knowledge. Three distinct elements; European Field Trip; Industry Challenge; Real Estate Strategy Game.Ìý


Aims:

The aim of this module is to integrate and apply both core and specialised knowledge obtained in the MSc Real Estate Programme and to demonstrate originality in the understanding and systematic application of this knowledge.Ìý


Assessable learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:Ìý





  • demonstrate aÌýsystematic understanding of the issues and problems that need to be resolved in order to manage a problem;Ìý




  • evaluate critically land and property issues in their wider economic, social, political and legal context;Ìý




  • deal withÌýcomplex ‘real world’ property market issues both systematically and creatively and to make sound judgements in the absence of complete data;Ìý

Outline content:

The module has threeÌýdistinct elements.ÌýÌý



- A six-day European field trip to a case study market including a structured programme of lectures, presentations and project visits in the case study city, a structured professional project brief and the professional presentation and reporting of findings.Ìý



- An industry challenge where teams of students are assigned a task by an industry partner. The assessed output involves both a professional presentation to the industry partner, and report.Ìý



- A one week integrated group strategy game.Ìý


Global context:

The vast majority of issues addressed in this module have global relevance.Ìý

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

The module will include 3 assignments. One minor group assignment involving the development of a short presentation and professional report based on the field trip case study (7,000 words;Ìý40% of Module CreditÌý-ÌýWeek 6 Summer Term) one minor group assignment involving the development of a short presentation and professional report based on a challenge set by an assigned industry partner (7,000 words;Ìý30% of Module CreditÌý-ÌýWeekÌý9 Summer Term) and one minor assignment in the form of a group integrated strategy game (7,000 words;Ìý30% of Module CreditÌý-ÌýWeek 8 Summer Term). All word counts are for guidance only. Unless the specific requirement of an individual assignment states that the word limit is strict, then there is some discretion with the guide length.Ìý

The pass-mark for this module is 50%.Ìý


Reassessment arrangements:

Reassessment will be as follows: Field Trip – Report-based project involving the construction of an investment case for a real estate asset in a market the candidate is familiar with. Industry Challenge – Report based on a real world industry setÌýbriefÌý.ÌýReal Estate Game – Essay which explores the use of game theory for real estate investment strategy. These reassessments are subject to variation by the Examination Board where appropriate.Ìý
