Summary module description:
This module is an optional module for those undertakingÌýtheÌýpart-time real estate MSc programmes. It is an applied module based on the notion that corporate real estate management is part of and not separate from the business of an occupying organisation. For thisÌýreasonÌýunderstanding the business is critical to the successful management of its real estate.Ìý
Aims:
This module applies strategic management principles to corporate real estate. The subject is considered at the business strategy, the real estate portfolio alignment and the operational impact levels. It examines strategic real estate management from the corporate viewpoint,Ìýhaving regard to the various stakeholders involved and how they interact. The different approaches to strategy and the implications of these approaches for the real estate portfolio will be examined within the context of live case studies. These case studies provide examples of how corporate real estate requirements shift in response to both strategic imperatives and the changing economic and competitive environmentÌýin order toÌýexamine how real estate can be managed in a way that enhances rather than inhibits corporate performance. Corporate real estate management is aimed at ensuring that the real estate portfolio remains aligned with corporate business needs. This module reviews current research, innovation and practice in this subject area.Ìý

evaluate how to manage corporate real estate to align a portfolio with the needs of the occupier;Ìý
compare and critically assess the different real estate approaches adopted to respond to an organisation's competitive strategy within its dynamic operating environment;Ìý
summarise and critique the different stakeholder perspectives of real estate management;Ìý
evaluate how real estate management, including facilities management, can add value;Ìý
review the latest research and management thinking on this topic.Ìý

CSR - sustainability for real estate managers.Ìý
During the study programme selected key themes that reflect emerging issues for the strategic management of corporate real estate are developed.Ìý
ÌýEach theme will be supported by a live case study organisation and a site visit will be arranged where possible.? If this is not feasible, a member of the organisation's corporate real estate team will give a presentation.Ìý

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The module is delivered inÌýaÌýblock release format that involves a four-day face-to-face teaching block with online post-teaching support.? The module is taught in an interactive format through seminars, workshops and site visits. Students take a lead role in gathering evidence in order to reflect on an organisation's real estate management strategy and practice. This will be presented and examined in seminar-based discussions following the site visits. An assessed individual project is the consolidating and integrating vehicle for the taught material.Ìý
