To give students experience of working in a professional environment and to aid development of a range of transferable skills relevant to a wide range of careers.Ìý
Assessable learning outcomes:
Students will satisfactorily complete a working placement. The placements need to be carefully selected on the basis of an agreed programme of work acceptable to both the home university and the external partner.
Additional outcomes:
Students will develop an understanding of the workings of a professional environment. Students will become competent in key professional skills such as team working, problem solving, and oral and written communication.
Students will be able to prepare written reports, give oral presentations and be able to discuss their work in a scholarly manner.

One-year placement at a professional host; meetings with academic and external supervisor.Ìý

This module is assessed on a pass/fail basis.
It is not possible to retake this module as it involves a placement that cannot be repeated.
Formative assessment methods:
All students will have three meetings with their academic supervisor during their placement, at least one of which will involve a site visit lasting approximately half-a-day. During these visits the student will present their work and be able to discuss this with their academic supervisor.

You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
Assessment requirements for a pass:
Students will satisfactorily complete their working placement to the standards set by the chemical industry. This module is assessed on a pass/fail basis by no later than mid August.
Reassessment arrangements:
It is not possible to retake this module as it involves an industrial placement that cannot be repeated.
