alt=""

I am responsible for the International Cocoa Germplasm Database (ICGD) project, data capture systems for projects in Ghana, Indonesia, and Brazil, the databases and websites for the UK cocoa research associations, INCOCOA groups, Cocoa Research at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, and the International Cocoa Quarantine Centre at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø (ICQC,R). I am also a founding member of the Cocoa Verification Working Group.

Research projects

I am responsible for developing the International Cocoa Germplasm Database (ICGD, ), which is a free to use, online cocoa database with an intuitive user interface that collates data from a wide range of sources, all of which are referenced. With information on approximately 12,000 varieties, including yield components, quality attributes, disease reactions, and genetics/genomics, ICGD is widely accepted to be the primary international source of information on the characteristics, origin, and location of cocoa genetic resources worldwide.

I also work with industry and other research institutes on several projects developing data-capture systems for research and breeding trials across different cocoa growing regions. These systems are intuitive and integrate barcode/QR code label generation, data input using mobile phones in the field, data checking, data management, and data output. They can greatly improved accuracy of data entry compared to paper-based forms, while also speeding up the process considerably.

I manage the bibliographic and information systems, as well as the web design, for several industry and research groups, including the Chocolate & Cocoa Industry Research site () and the INCOCOA groups (informal networks created to promote the exchange of ideas and information amongst the cocoa community), which includes the INCOCOA Library ().

I also manage the website and database for the National Fruit Collection (), which is curated and maintained on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is part of an international programme to protect plant genetic resources for the future.
