Jorge has been involved in several research projects. During his PhD studies, he was a part-time researcher in economics for projects funded by EIT Food Strategy, the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, and Universidad Mayor (Chile). Since 2022, as a post-doctoral researcher, he has been involved in the next projects:
Jorge explored the economic viability and financial impacts of integrating robotics into UK agriculture, specifically focusing on automation in soft fruit farming.
This innovative project evaluated the economic, financial and environmental performance of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) integrated with Anaerobic Digestion (AD) for sustainable prawn farming integrated into arable and dairy farms in the UK.

Background
Initially trained as an Agronomist in Chile, Jorge's early career focused on the technical aspects of agricultural production systems. His transition to a broader research perspective began with his Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics (2008-2009), where he delved into economic analysis related to agricultural policies and labour market dynamics. After his master’s degree, he was an Agricultural Economist at the Agency of Studies and Agricultural Policies at the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile (2009-2011) and an Economist and Head of the Department of Information Assurance at the Ministry of Social Development of Chile (2012-2017).
His PhD in Agricultural, Environment and Food Economics (2018-2022) at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø expanded his research scope further, integrating environmental and food economics into his studies. This multidisciplinary research included evaluating the economic impacts of technological innovations in agriculture, such as new technologies and sustainable diversification, and their broader socio-economic and environmental implications.
Jorge has published his emerging research in high-impact journals and has contributed as a reviewer to Applied Economics and the International Journal of Agriculture and Natural Resources, among others.
